The LUA group operated actively between January and June. We continue our work with Ukrainian partners as much as we can. In February, we had an honour to host 8 professors and reseachers from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (TSNUK) whose primary purpose of the visit was to meet the Humanities Lab here at LU and explore possibilities for further collaborations between LU and TSNUK.
In March, the LUA group and its work were presented at the conference “Human Rights Dialogue – Ukraine as a Catalyst for Human Rights Cooperation” organized by the Human Rights Profile Area and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute here at LU.
In April, the LUA group met 6 teachers from Ukrainian National Academy of Music and Kharkiv National University of Arts who mainly visited the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts (LU). In addition, the LUA group had an online meeting with the Acting Director of EPIK (the European Policy Institute in Kyiv) Fredrik Wesslau who presented his newly established institution.
In early May, LUA members participated in the official ceremony for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between LU and the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies, which opens new opportunities for both parties to promote knowledge of the Ukrainian language, culture, history, and develop contacts within education and science. LU is also active in the capacity building projects with the Ukrainian partners. The members of the LUA group and their institutions (faculties) have already completed their project with the Ukrainian partners, for example “Developing a Sustainable Transport System from a Rights-Based Perspective” or they are in the final stages of their project “EUcation: Urban Governance for Human Rights and EU Integration”. In June, some colleagues (i.e. Jörgen Norén and Oleksandra Panasenko) visited LU’s partner in Ukraine (TSNUK) and had productive meetings with partners there that can contribute to strengthening the cooperation between our universities. This trip showed that not only Ukrainian partners can learn from LU and Sweden, but that we at LU can also learn and adapt our university better to new unforeseen challenges and possible future crises.
We also see a growing interest in the LUA group, as evidenced by the recent increase in the number of members in our university network.
